1) The fewer criteria you select, the more matches you will receive. The more criteria you select, the fewer matches you will receive but they will be more targeted. Example: if you select "CA" in the state field and leave all other fields blank, then you will receive notice about every course given in California. On the other hand, if you also enter criteria in the city & topic fields, your Learning Flash e-mail notices will include only courses given on your chosen topic in your city.

Quick Tips on the "Other Topic(s)" and "Major Topic" Fields:
Learning Flash is designed to match as many courses, conventions and trade shows as possible given your criteria. In some instances you will receive courses that do not interest you. For example: if you choose "management" for your topic, you might get courses matching "retail management", "zoo management", "business management", "manufacturing management", etc.

If you want to receive courses matching a specific topic then you should type it into the "Other Topic(s)" field. In the above example, for instance, you would list "retail management" for your topic if you are specifically interested in that subject. This will decrease the number of matching courses, but will be more targeted.

It is your personal preference when deciding to use a general or more narrow course topic. General topics (like "management") will return many courses, but some may not match exactly what you are looking for. More narrow topics will match your interests more closely, but you will receive fewer matches.

Public Seminar:
A public seminar is scheduled for a specific date, with a defined course outline and is open to the general public. Usually one or two days in length and given by professional seminar companies, Universities and individuals.

Private Seminar:
A private seminar is a predifined program, popular with organizations needing training and expertise on specific subjects. Example: The sales division in ACME Corp. needs training on a specific sales technique. They would contact a private seminar leader or company that already has a program created to meet their needs. Private seminars are tailored to meet an organization's objectives.

Continuing Education Course:
Continuing education courses are given by colleges and Universities on a variety of professional and personal growth topics. Classes usually meet once or twice a week over the course of a few months and may offer academic credit or licensing.

Web Based Training (WBT):
Web based training programs are given on the Web. Most likely involving audio, text, e-mail, and images, these Web based seminars can also include video, chat and other interactive features. As a new medium, these seminars are diverse in their formats, comprehensiveness, and length.

Course Given During a Convention:
These are courses given as part of a convention's programs. Usually, registration for the convention is required and the course price is included in the registration.

Convention:
A gathering of professionals within an industry usually featuring workshops, programs, presentations, suppliers, keynote speakers, etc.

Trade Show:
Usually given as part of a convention featuring suppliers showcasing their products and services for a particular industry.
